CUSTOMER RESTORATIONS

1956 MGA

This car was imported form the US. Superficially, it looked reasonable, but closer examination revealed extensive corrosion, and considerable amount of cutting and removal of body and chassis parts by the previous owner – probably, it seems, to fit a larger engine.

The chassis has now been completely stripped and new metal has been welded in. Several major new parts, inducing the structural cross members, have been refabricated, adding back the strength which had been lost in the previous surgery. The chassis has been rejigged, and the body is soon to be remounted prior to new sills and door sections being welded in.

Overall, this is a major restoration, but the MGA is a relatively simple vehicle, and most parts are readily available through the specialist network. It is hoped to have this charming little 1950s sports car back on the road by the spring of 2014.

Jaguar E-Type

This is a 4.2 litre 1968 series 2 fixed head coupe, which was brought in from the US. It was largely complete, but the body was generally quite badly corroded, and will require significant welding.

All of the major assemblies – engine, gearbox, cooling system, axles, brakes – are currently being refurbished, either in-house or through our network of specialists. The body has been sandblasted and the welding schedule is being planned at present.

The customer, who is participating in some of the work, has asked for this to be a good quality but not concours restoration. It will be subtly upgraded and modernisated, as he wants to use it as a regular drive.
