Massive Elements
Massive elements are, as the name indicates elements that are produced from solid laminated timber. Building with massive elements is a good alternative to the more traditional building methods and is often described as building components of the future. The development of massive elements is a result of increasing concern for the environment together with high interest for the most natural building material - Wood.
Wood has a positive effect on the indoor climate as well as on the environment. Three different properties are considered in the evaluation of the strength of glulam: bending, tension and compression strength.
Tensile strength
The tensile strength is the necessary force to tear the beam.
Compression strength
The pressure strength is the necessary force to crush the beam
Bending strength
The bending strength is the necessary force to break the beam when
it is bent
